Keynote: Ben Vershbow,
The Institute for the Future of the Book
Ben was interviewed in the May 15, 2006 edition of Library Journal for the cover story, "The Social Life of Books."
Ben Vershbow is a writer, researcher and publisher at the Institute for
the Future of the Book, a New York-based think tank and publishing lab connected
to the Annenberg Center for Communication at the University of Southern
California. He has directed numerous digital publishing experiments at the
Institute, including New School cultural theorist McKenzie Wark's "GAM3R
7H30RY 1.1", NYU media historian Mitchell Stephens' "Without Gods",
and the multimedia art blog "IT IN place" by Brooklyn painter
Alexandre Itin. Upcoming projects include two networked books: a collaborative
history of MIT's Architecture Machine Group led by Columbia Network Architecture
Lab director Kazys Varnelis, and an exploration of urban computing by information
architect Adam Greenfield. In addition to being a frequent contributor to
the Institute's blog, "if:book", Vershbow has written on digital
publishing and network culture for Publisher's Weekly and Library
Journal. He received his B.A. from Yale. |

Karen Mellor is a Library Program Specialist at the Rhode Island Office of Library and Information Services where she is a member of the agency's Web Team. Karen leads the state's Web Data Sharing project, a multi-agency task force that is implementing new ways to disseminate and share government information via web services and Web 2.0 technologies. |

Speaking the Language of the Millennials
Elisabeth Tully, Director, Oliver Wendell Holmes Library at Phillips Academy
Elisabeth Tully came to the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library via a circuitous path that included receiving a BA in religion from Duke University and an MPH from UNC in Health Administration. After a stint in the Peace Corps, she spent fifteen years as a hospital administrator and hospital and health insurance reimbursement consultant before obtaining her MLS and teaching certification. She has worked in both public and independent high schools, and has been the Director of the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library at Phillips Academy for the past 5 years.

Michael Blake, Associate Director for Instruction at the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library, has experience in many different library settings: academic libraries, consortium libraries in hospitals, special libraries in consulting firms and public libraries. At the OWHL he directs a team of six instructional librarians in supporting teaching and learning across the curriculum.
Sara Ciaburri, Instructional Librarian, Oliver Wendell Holmes Library at Phillips Academy
Sara Ciaburri is a member of the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library’s instructional team, with liaison responsibilities for the Arts. She is a recent graduate of the MLS program at Simmons College, and is undeniably the “coolest” member of the library staff. Sara is the editor of the OWHL’s blogs, and is responsible for our MySpace account. |

Reaching Library Users: Delivering Dynamic Library Content with Blogs and Wikis
Chad Boeninger, Reference & Instruction Librarian, Alden Library at Ohio University
Chad F. Boeninger is a Reference & Instruction Librarian at Ohio University's Alden Library. He is also the Business & Economics Bibliographer and the assistant web manager. Chad began working at Ohio University in July 2002, shortly after receiving his Master of Science in Information Sciences from the University of Tennessee. Chad's research interests include multiple aspects of technology, library marketing, library planning, library instruction, and public services. He is constantly striving to make the library a cool place and a viable resource for current and future patrons. He is the author of the Library Voice blog. |
