Ms. Chevreau's presentation was divided into two parts, covering the Millennium Web Access Management and the INN-Reach systems.
Millennium Web Access Management allows the library to specify up to 150 different remote Web Servers to which controlled access may be offered to patrons via the INNOPAC system. Control is managed by a limited proxy server that forwards access to those remote servers through the INNOPAC system. With the Web Access Management service, patrons access Web pages from the remote servers just as though they were pages on Innovative's Web Server itself, allowing patrons access to resources which are usually restricted only to specific addresses or networks.
The library can restrict access to a remote server based on the location (IP address) of the patron's browser using the service level facility. The library can also specify that the Web Server require patron verification before allowing access to a remote server. Or, both facilities may be combined so that patrons in the library are granted access without verification, but the same patrons accessing the INNOPAC from outside the library via the Internet would be required to identify themselves by name and library ID. Access can also be restricted, inside or outside the library, based on patron type.
A URL checking program automatically runs overnight on the entire database; the library sets the frequency--daily, weekly, or monthly. The error report is saved as an HTML document and viewed with a browser. In addition, staff may check a range of records or a review file interactively at any time and view a report sorted by error type, listing each Bibliographic record number and the erroneous URLs. The report also includes statistics that show error types and frequency.
INN-Reach brings multiple library systems together by combining a Union Catalog with sophisticated inter-library loan and circulation functions. Patrons can easily make online requests for materials from other member libraries from remote or local workstations. Immediate communication between systems means that requests are processed quickly and delivery is fast sometimes the same day.
