Description: This course will concentrate on understanding and applying Library of Congress Classification (LCC) subdivision techniques. Through examples and exercises participants will learn about using tables, cutter numbers, and other methods used in LCC for subdivision. We will concentrate on examples and exercises from the P, H, and L classifications.
You will learn about:
  • The relationship between LCC collection arrangement and notation
  • LCC subdivision techniques
  • Applying tables
  • Geographic subdivision
  • Using ranges of numbers and cutter numbers for subdivision
Time: Five hours
Location: This full day "Customized Training" session can be brought to your library at any time.
Who should attend: Catalogers who assign or adapt LCC call numbers and want to expand their understanding of LCC subdivision techniques.
Prerequisite: Introduction to the Library of Congress Classification System OR understanding of LC cuttering, including successive cutter numbers.
Cost: $995.00 per customized training event, plus expenses
