OCLC Cataloging Update (January, 2007)
ONLINE CATALOGING
Connexion Client 1.70: Connexion Client 1.70 was released in December, 2006 with a number of new features.

List of recent enhancements

All Connexion Client 1.60 users MUST move to Client 1.70 before APRIL 1, 2007. Client 1.60 will end on April 1, 2007 and will not work after this date.
NEW AND EVOLVING OCLC SERVICES
RLG Migration: OCLC is working on a number of projects in connection with the RLG migration. Authority history has been added to the Connexion browser and Client 1.70, and guided entry for archival field data (541 and 583) is available. OCLC is working on cluster (institution) records, and projects availability for mid-2007. This will allow participating libraries to view their own version of a bibliographic record in OCLC. OCLC will also provide a way to convert RLIN21 text macros to Connexion Client text strings so they will not have to be rekeyed.

RLG Transition Information
OCLC Terminologies Service: OCLC currently provides access to 6 controlled vocabularies that can be used for cataloging with either Connexion Client, Connexion Browser, or another metadata editor, including ContentDM. The vocabularies can be searched and terms copied and pasted into bibliographic records. Microsoft Office 2003 and Internet Explorer 6.0 (or above) are required. Follow the setup instructions and view the tutorials to become familiar with how to use the service.

More Information
eSerials Holdings Service: This service allows libraries, through their vendors, to load holdings for their e-serials to OCLC WorldCat. OCLC users, through FirstSearch, WorldCat.org, or Open WorldCat, will see the library's holdings for their e-serials. There are now more than 200 libraries, and three vendors (TDNet, Serials Solutions, Ebsco) participating, and over 1.72 million holdings have been set.

More Information
WorldCat Selection Service: This new OCLC service was first developed at Cornell University to manage and streamline their selection and acquisitions processes, and is now generally available as an OCLC service. Participants can save time and money by streamlining their workflow from the point of selection, through the ordering process, to the delivery of catalog records for purchased material.

More Information
WorldCat Cataloging Partners Service: OCLC is merging the PromptCat and Cataloging Partners Services to form a new service called WorldCat Cataloging Partners. Users can choose among three levels of service: basic, 100% record delivery, and customized record delivery. OCLC is in the process of moving current vendors and customers of the two existing services over to the new, combined service.
OCLC/Baker and Taylor Partnership: This partnership, announced in late 2005, is expected to be introduced in early 2007. Customers of Baker & Taylor companies (B&T, YBP, J.A. Majors and Libros Sin Fronteras) will be able to streamline their acquisitions and cataloging with enhanced OCLC and vendor services. Watch for more information from participating vendors.
WorldCat.org (WorldCat on the Web): WorldCat.org, released in August, 2006, presents the ENTIRE OCLC WorldCat database on a publicly accessible website. Libraries can download a WorldCat.org search box and put it anywhere on a local website to enable easy user searching of WorldCat.org. Searches of the WorldCat database result in a display of WorldCat bibliographic records, with a list of libraries that hold the item. Library names are ranked by distance from your zip code, so the closest libraries to you come to the top of the list. Users can click on the link to be go directly to your local library catalog. A subscription to the FirstSearch service is required for library names to appear on the list.

Reclamation Batchload Projects: OCLC continues to offer libraries a one-time opportunity, at no charge, to clean up their OCLC holdings and make them match local cataloging holdings. Extract your records from your local system and send them to OCLC. OCLC will remove your holdings from titles you no longer own, and add them to any titles you do own but lack your holdings symbol.
