OCLC owns and distributes
the classification schedules for the Dewey Decimal System. DDC, the
most widely used classification system in the world, is available
in both printed book form (the new edition, DDC 22) and an electronic
version, WebDewey. The Abridged Edition, a simplified version suitable
for smaller collections, is also available in both print and electronic
versions.
Dewey Services also provides a Dewey
Cutter Program, to help the Dewey classifier easily construct
appropriate Cutter numbers
For more information, visit the OCLC
Dewey Services Web page.
WebDewey
WebDewey gives you access to an enhanced version of the DDC database.
WebDewey is part of the OCLC suite of cataloging and metadata services
that OCLC offers through the OCLC Connexion service.
WebDewey includes:
- All content from DDC 22, including quarterly updates
- Updated PPT mappings to Edition 22 numbers in the areas of
computer science and law
- Thousands of Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH)
that have been statistically mapped to Dewey numbers from records
in WorldCat (the OCLC Online Union Catalog) and intellectually
mapped by DDC editors
